A broad definition for the “workplace” component of sexual harassment in the workplace is critical to ensure that individuals benefit from protections wherever they are carrying out their work or are obligated to be as a result of it. In Ending Violence and Harassment against Women and Men in the World of Work, the ILO explains that these spaces could include “work-related events, travel to and from work, in employer-provided accommodation or through work-related technologies.” Similarly, they flag that protections must encompass all sectors (both formal and informal) and all workers (including interns, consultants, etc.).
