About ParlAmericas

ParlAmericas is the network of national legislatures of member states of the Organization of American States (OAS).

It is managed by parliamentarians for parliamentarians, and serves as an independent forum for cooperative political dialogue and participation in the Inter-American system.

Through meetings and projects organized by its network of parliamentarians for gender equality, ParlAmericas facilitates the exchange of knowledge and best practices to support women’s political leadership and gender mainstreaming in legislative work.

About UN Women Multi-Country Office for the Caribbean

UN Women is the UN organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. UN Women, among other issues, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; empowerment of women; and achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

CROSS THE STEP

On International Women’s Day, we reiterate the greater participation of women as one of the necessary conditions for an inclusive Agenda 2030. Their leadership is insufficiently recognized but must emerge with greater participation in decision-making bodies. Each one of us is needed—in our countries, communities, organizations, governments and in the United Nations—to ensure decisive, visible and measurable actions are taken under the banner: 'Planet 50-50 / Step It Up for Gender Equality.'
